SIR ALLWELL IHUNDA URGE BENEFICIARIES OF MTN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME IN OROGBUM COMMUNITY TO SEE IT AS A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP THEMSELVES

_Collaborates with MTN to double the number of beneficiaries_

Mayor Of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir Allwell Ihunda has urged the beneficiaries of an Empowerment programme sponsored by telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria Communication PLC in Orogbum Community to see the empowerment as a business opportunity to develop themselves.

The Mayor spoke as the special guest during the unveiling of 21days of y’ello care by MTN Nigeria Communication PLC in Orogbum Community.

Sir Allwell Ihunda said MTN Nigeria is a company that is interested in keeping relationships with their host communities, also reaching out to the needy and less privileged in the society.

He said as part of the company’s cooperate social responsibility to the community they have initiated an empowerment scheme that will create jobs for the beneficiaries.

“I want to urge the beneficiaries of this economic empowerment programme to first consider and count themselves privileged to be considered for the programme.

This will create jobs that will put food on your tables so see this as a business opportunity to develop yourselves”.

The General Manager MTN Nigeria Communications PLC Eastern region Mr. Innocent Entonu who led the team from the company to the event, said MTN is committed to adding economic value by contributing to society through it’s programmes focused on digital education.

He said the theme of the 21 days of y’ello care programme is;

“Empowering communities to drive economic recovery “.

“As a company, it is imperative that we continue to contribute to our societies and ensure that the communities in which we operate see the value of our business in their lives”.

Beneficiaries of the empowerment programme are 13 persons cut across the 13 families that makes up Orogbum Community.

Sir Allwell Ihunda said the Port Harcourt City Local Government will partner with the company to sponsor 15 additional persons cut across the families and the none indigenes in the community, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 28.

The visibly elated members of Orogbum Community clapped and danced while appreciating Sir Allwell Ihunda for all he has done for the community since his assumption of office.

The Mayor was accompanied to the event by the councillor representing PHALGA Ward 2,Hon. Charles Nyesom Lumati, his Chief of Staff, Mr. Glory Oparaodu, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Hon. Chijioke Odum and a retinue of other appointees.
