The atmosphere at the Port Harcourt City Local Government Council Secretariat was filled with excitement and celebration as the Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir (Hon.) Allwell Ihunda DSSRS, JP, on Tuesday, 12th May, 2026, officially presented operational vehicles to the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Tom-Quin Minna Mildred, the Leader of the 10th Legislative Council, Councillors of the twenty wards, the Secretary of Council, the Chief of Staff to the Mayor, and the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the Mayor.

The event, which attracted political leaders, stakeholders, council officials, and party faithful, marked another significant milestone in the administration’s commitment to effective governance, improved service delivery, and institutional support for public office holders within the council.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Mayor, Sir (Hon.) Allwell Ihunda DSSRS, JP, expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for the opportunity to fulfill what he described as a key obligation of his administration to the legislative arm and principal officers of the council.

The Mayor appreciated the presence and unwavering support of leaders and stakeholders of the local government, particularly members of the Rainbow Coalition, noting that their encouragement and cooperation have continued to strengthen the success of his administration since inception.

He explained that the presentation of the vehicles was in line with the council’s budgetary provisions for the current fiscal year and was carefully designed to enhance mobility, efficiency, and grassroots service delivery by beneficiaries across their respective wards and offices.

According to the Mayor, the administration remained mindful of the daily challenges faced by council officials in the discharge of their responsibilities and considered the gesture necessary to improve their operational effectiveness.

He further urged beneficiaries to ensure proper maintenance and responsible usage of the vehicles, emphasizing that the gesture should translate into greater commitment to the welfare and development of residents across the twenty wards of Port Harcourt City.

The Mayor also used the opportunity to appreciate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, for their roles in restoring democratic governance and peace in Rivers State.

In their separate remarks, leaders and stakeholders of Port Harcourt City Local Government commended the Mayor for what they described as a visionary and people-oriented leadership style, noting that the provision of operational vehicles would significantly improve legislative and administrative efficiency within the council.

Speaking on behalf of the Rainbow Coalition leadership in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Eze Hon. Ken Chikere DSSRS praised the harmonious working relationship existing between the executive and legislative arms of the council. He noted that the vehicles would greatly support the legislative responsibilities of councillors and further strengthen governance at the grassroots. He also applauded the infrastructural transformation and administrative coordination witnessed within the council under the present leadership.

Speaking further, former Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Hon. Barr. Inime Aguma DSSRS, described the gesture as commendable, especially considering the prevailing economic realities in the country. She lauded the Mayor for demonstrating strong political will and urged beneficiaries to utilize the vehicles strictly for effective service delivery, responsiveness, and developmental activities within Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

Also, in their separate remarks, Chief Hon. Lasbry Amadi Amadi, DSSRS, and Barr. Worgu Boms both commended the Mayor for what they described as a giant stride, noting that the gesture is indeed a timely intervention.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Leader of the 10th Legislative Council, Hon. Noble Hanachor Orlu, expressed deep appreciation to the Mayor for what he described as another remarkable demonstration of leadership and commitment to the welfare of the legislative arm. He assured the Mayor of the unwavering support and cooperation of the 10th Legislative Council in advancing the administration’s vision for the development of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

The highpoint of the event was the symbolic presentation of vehicle keys to the Deputy Mayor, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Councillors representing the twenty wards of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, the Secretary of Council, the Chief of Staff to the Mayor, and the Chief Security Officer to the Mayor.

The ceremony ended on a celebratory note with goodwill messages, photographs, and congratulatory exchanges among political leaders, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
