Port Harcourt Mayor Sir Allwell Ihunda announces full rehabilitation of Okija Road, Port Harcourt at EDA end-of-year celebration.
The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir (Hon.) Allwell Ihunda DSSRS, JP, on Sunday attended the end-of-year celebration of the Electrical Dealers Association (EDA) at Autograph Mall, GRA, following a formal invitation from the Association.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor expressed appreciation to the electrical dealers for their consistent support to the Council, particularly during the August 3rd, 2025 Local Government Election. He noted that their solidarity played a significant role in ensuring a peaceful and well-organized electoral process.
Sir Ihunda commended the Association for maintaining order within their business space and for their steady remittance of council revenue. He described them as a dependable partner in the growth and progress of Port Harcourt City.
A key highlight of the event was the Mayor’s announcement of a major infrastructure intervention on the deplorable Okija Road.
He disclosed that the Council has concluded plans to fully rehabilitate the road, covering the entire stretch from Ikwere Road to the D/Line axis, an area where many members of the Association operate their businesses.
According to him, the Council had visited the road several times to assess its condition and is now prepared to commence repair works aimed at restoring smooth vehicular movement, improving customer access, and enhancing economic activities along the corridor.
“We are committed to making sure that the benefits of governance are felt by everyone doing business in Port Harcourt City, irrespective of tribe or origin,” the Mayor stated, assuring the traders that development projects will continue to reach critical commercial zones.
As the festive season approaches, Sir Ihunda also urged residents and business owners to prioritize their safety. He advised them to secure their vehicles at public events and exercise caution when using public transportation to avoid “one-chance” incidents.
He wished the traders and residents of Port Harcourt City an early Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
In a related development, the Mayor later paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Elder Nna Izim, who passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Elder Izim was the father of Dr. Blessing Izim, the Mayor’s Executive Assistant on Innovation and ICT. Sir Ihunda offered prayers for the family and assured them of his support during the burial ceremonies.
