The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir (Hon.) Allwell Ihunda, DSSRS, JP, has commended members of the Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada Inc. (OIUSA) for their sustained commitment to improving healthcare delivery among the Ikwerre people and the wider public through their free medical and surgical missions.
Sir Ihunda gave the commendation when he received members of the OIUSA delegation who paid him a courtesy visit at the Council Secretariat on Tuesday, 21st October, 2025.
The Mayor expressed deep satisfaction with the groupβs dedication to enhancing the well-being of their people, emphasizing that good health is the foundation for productivity and prosperity.
βI want to commend you for the great work you are doing for the Ikwerre ethnic nationality. Health is wealth, and one must be alive to work, to do business, and to engage in any meaningful activity, I encourage you to keep up this noble effort, and may God continue to guide and bless your endeavors.β Sir Ihunda stated.
He noted that he has always been at the forefront of supporting the organizationβs missions in other Ikwerre Local Government Areas, assuring the team that Port Harcourt City Council is fully prepared to collaborate with OIUSA for the upcoming 2027 mission.
βWe are delighted that you have decided to extend this life-saving mission to the people of Port Harcourt City. The Council is ready to partner with you to ensure that the 2027 medical mission is a resounding success, the best ever,β the Mayor affirmed.
Sir Ihunda further revealed that the Councilβs fully furnished and equipped Health Centre, located within the Council Secretariat, has been earmarked as one of the venues for the 2027 exercise.
He also disclosed that the Council will organize a free medical outreach before the end of 2025 to address immediate healthcare needs within the community.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of OIUSA, Dr. Patrick Ugo Anyawoke, briefed the Mayor on the organizationβs recently concluded Free Medical and Surgical Mission in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, held from 13th to 17th October, 2025, under the theme βEhnioma Bu Ekwnuβ (Health is Wealth). He announced that Port Harcourt City LGA has been selected as the host for their next major mission in 2027.
Dr. Anyawoke appealed for the Councilβs continued support, including the provision of necessary facilities and the appointment of a liaison officer to facilitate effective coordination and communication between both parties.
It will be recalled that OIUSA has previously conducted successful medical missions across several Ikwerre LGAs, including Emohua and Obio/Akpor, offering free consultations, surgeries, and treatments to thousands of beneficiaries.
The highlight of the visit was an inspection tour of the Port Harcourt City Primary Healthcare Authority, a modern health facility conceptualized, constructed, and fully equipped under the administration of Sir Allwell Ihunda during his first term in office. The facility has been designated as one of the key centers for the 2027 medical and surgical mission.
