The ongoing sanitation efforts across Port Harcourt City have continued to record significant success, as Port Harcourt City Local Government Sanitation personnel intensify routine cleaning activities in various parts of the metropolis on a daily basis. These activities include the sweeping of major streets, removal of waste, clearing of clogged drainage systems, and maintaining both commercial and residential areas in an orderly and environmentally friendly condition.

However, it is important to note that the ๐™๐™ž๐™ซ๐™š๐™ง๐™จ ๐™Ž๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š ๐™’๐™–๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™–๐™œ๐™š๐™ข๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ ๐˜ผ๐™œ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ฎ (๐™๐™„๐™’๐˜ผ๐™ˆ๐˜ผ) has, in recent weeks, appeared complacent in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities. This is particularly evident along Ikwerre Road, Olu Obasanjo Road and other areas where debris and refuse have been left littering the median of the major roadway.

This situation has significantly undermined the efforts of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Sanitation Team, whose daily activities often go unnoticed by residents due to the visible neglect by the state-owned agency charged with waste evacuation and management.

We therefore call on the Management of ๐™๐™„๐™’๐˜ผ๐™ˆ๐˜ผ to act swiftly and mandate the Waste management service providers responsible for waste disposal to immediately resume its duties. This will help prevent the unfortunate situation where our beautiful city is unfavorably compared to the past environmental challenges experienced in Aba, where waste once overwhelmed parts of the city.

The activities of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Sanitation Team closely supervised by the Mayor, Allwell Ihunda DSSRS, JP remain consistent and committed to maintaining environmental cleanliness. We therefore urge the relevant state ministry and agencies to demonstrate the same level of dedication in order to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city for all residents.
