*SIR ALLWELL IHUNDA URGES MUSLIM COMMUNITY IN PORT HARCOURT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ONGOING INEC VOTERS REGISTRATION EXERCISE AND SUPPORT THE PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION OF GOV. NYESOM WIKE.*

The Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir Allwell Ihunda has urged Muslim Community in the Rivers State Capital to take advantage of the ongoing voters registration exercise to register in mass and support the presidential ambition of the Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike.

The Mayor who was ably represented by Barr. Chile-Kay Owuru made the remark during a visit to representatives of all the Mosques in Port Harcourt City, at the Jibwis Mosque, No. 36 Bonny Street to felicitate with them on the celebration of the Eid-el-Fitr.

“Let me commend you for the peaceful disposition you have demonstrated in our city, nothing should provoke you to take arms against your fellow human being, no matter the tribe or religion. As a government, we assure you that we will continue to ensure that all citizens live in a safe and secure environment.”

“It is also important to state that your support for us will not be complete without you taking advantage of the ongoing voters registration exercise to register en masse and support the presidential ambition of our dear Gov. Nyesom Wike and other PDP candidates during the 2023 elections.” Sir Allwell said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Secretary of the Jibwis Mosque, Malam Dan-Ltit appreciated the Mayor for the 1st ever visit by any Mayor and the appointment of Hajiya Maryam Nasiru as the first ever Special Assistant on Islamic Matters to a Local Government Chairman.

“Hajiya Maryam Nasiru Usman is a square peg in a square hole, she has already gone round all the Mosques in Port Harcourt to sensitise our people on the need to obtain their voters cards; and those of us who are Islamic leaders have also taken it upon ourselves to ensure that our people get registered and obtain their voting rights here.” Malam Dan-Liti said.

On his part, Alhaji Isah Madaki, the leader of the Hausa Community in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area reassured the Mayor of the resolve of Muslims to support the Local and State Governments politically, administratively and otherwise, in as much as it wouldn’t contravene the tenets of Islam; while Hajiya Maryam Nasiru Usman used the opportunity to thank the Mayor for appointing her as a Special Assistant on Islamic Matters and also giving her a listening ears.

Highlight of the visit was the handing over of bags of rice and a cash gift to the Muslim Leader by the Mayor in the spirit of the Eid-el-Fitr.

Others in the Mayor’s delegation were Hon. Glory Oparaodu, the Chief of Staff to the Mayor; Hon. John Amadichukwu, the Supervisor for Transport; Barr. Comfort Uche Agumagu, the Special Adviser on Legal Matters to the Mayor; Sir. Hon. Arthur Tamumie Ebenezer, the Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to the Mayor and Robertson Jack, the Special Assistant to the Mayor on Media.
