Fresh from his swearing-in after his re-election victory, Sir Hon. Allwell Ihunda, DSSRS, JP, has officially resumed office as Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
At a brief handover ceremony at the Council Secretariat, Moscow Road, the former Administrator, Dr. (Barr.) Samuel B. Kalagbor, formally handed over council documents to Ihunda, marking the start of a new mandate.
In his remarks, Sir Allwell Ihunda expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for restoring peace in Rivers State and the State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd.), for ensuring that the Rivers State Local Government elections were peaceful and credible.
He also commended Dr. Kalagbor for maintaining peace during his tenure as administrator, stressing that the absence of rancour in the August 30 polls was a testament to the stability built under his watch.
The Mayor pledged to build on the successes of his first term, assuring Port Harcourt residents that his administration will focus on tangible, people-centered programs.
“Our priority is direct economic development that will touch lives at the grassroots. We will consolidate on healthcare, education, security, and sanitation — areas that matter most to our people,” Ihunda said.
He further urged council officers and stakeholders to collaborate, emphasizing that collective effort is key to delivering democratic dividends.
A New Phase for Port Harcourt City
With the handover complete, Sir Allwell Ihunda’s second tenure officially begins — one he insists will bring greater impact and improved governance to the residents of Port Harcourt City.
