Women Empowerment Has Always Been A Cardinal Objectives Of My Administration – The Mayor of Port Harcourt, Sir Allwell Ihunda

Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Sir Allwell Ihunda, DSSRS JP has said that the empowerment of women takes pride of place in
the activities of his administration.

The Mayor stated this when he hosted leaders and members of the National Council for Women Society, Rivers State at the conference room of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.

He noted that his administration’s disposition towards women inclusivity is reflected even in the choice of the Vice Chairman and a good number of other women appointed and employed in the council.

“Here in our LGA, we have women that are councillors, we have done alot in terms of empowerment programmes in which women are huge beneficiaries.

The various skills acquisition programmes we have engaged in so far since we assumed office two years ago has been able to empower over 500 women”. The Mayor said.

He noted that he is further inspired on issues of women inclusivity and empowerment by the Rivers State Government, who he is committed to keenly emulating on all things sustainable and good.

In her earlier remarks, the state President of the National Council for Women societies, who led the delegation, Princess Jetiba Soberekon thanked the Mayor for giving them the opportunity to interact with him.

She said they had longed for the opportunity to tap from his wealth of experience.

The Rivers State NCWS President said the organization is an umbrella body of all women organizations in Nigeria, it is set up to provide a platform for women to express themselves in social, economic and political well being of women in Nigeria.

Princess Jetiba Soberekon solicited for financial support from the Mayor while appealing that the organization be incorporated in the LGA’s activities.

The Mayor agreed to support the activities of the PHALGA branch of the organization.

In the same vein, Sir Allwell Ihunda also played host to the diocesan women of the Emmanuel Anglican Church, Nkpolu Oroworukwo.

He tasked the women to continue in their prayers for governments at all levels in Nigeria.

He promised to always support their activities when brought to his notice.
