_Thanks Gov Wike for the laudable initiatives and prompt intervention to mitigate the effect of the flood on the victims_

The Association of Local Governments in Nigeria (ALGON), Rivers State chapter has donated relief materials worth millions of naira to flood victims in the State.

Making the donation on behalf of ALGON, the chairman of the state chapter and Mayor Of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir Allwell Ihunda thanked Gov. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the laudable initiatives embarked upon and prompt Intervention to mitigate the effect of the flood that ravaged six local government areas in Rivers State.

He said the Governor acted promptly by setting up a state taskforce, also released a whopping sum of One billion naira to ensure that the victims are taken care of and relocated to IDP camps.

Speaking while donating the items, The Mayor said they are presenting to the Rivers State taskforce on flood management, relief materials purchased by ALGON to support the state government’s laudable initiative to give succor to the victims of the flood in the six affected LGA’S namely; Abua Odua, Ahoada East, Ahoada West,Emohua, Ogba Egbema Ndoni and Akuku Toru LGA’S.

“We feel the pains suffered by the flood victims, we decided to identify with our colleagues in the affected LGA’S because injury to one is injury to all.

As LGA Chairmen that are in touch with the grassroot we decided to support the state government in giving out relief materials, so those affected can at least have something to eat and foams to sleep at night in the various IDP camps provided by the state government”.

Receiving the items, the chairman of the Rivers State flood management taskforce 2022,Dr. George Nweke Mni, thanked the members of ALGON for the kind gesture, he said they are indeed following the good steps of Gov Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

Some relief materials donated by ALGON includes 250 foams, 250 pillow, 250 blankets, 250 cartons of indomie, 170 bags of rice, 6 bags of garri, 250 tubers of yam, 30 cartons of hypo soap and 250 mosquito nets.
