PHALGA PRESS STATEMENT
RE: ABUSIVE REACTION OF HON. Chinyere IGWE TO LAWFUL ACTION OF RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT AGAINST HIS ACCUSED PETROL STATION
It is a thing of regret to witness the very appalling reaction of Hon. Chinyere Igwe to the action of the Rivers State Government to safeguard the health of residents of Port Harcourt in particular, and maintain law and order.
It must be noted, without equivocation that no one is above the laws of Rivers State. As things stand today, Hon. Chinyere Igwe”s petrol station is accused of involvement in illicit petrol refining and/or dealing, popularly known as ‘kpofire’.
The Administration of Governor Nyesom Wike rightly intervened by ordering the shutdown of that station located at Ojoto Street in Mile 2, Diobu.
As a man who has questions to answer, it is totally unacceptable to all right-thinking persons that Hon. Igwe should resort to insults against the person of the Governor of Rivers State.
By calling the Governor such printable names as he did merely exposes Hon. Chinyere Igwe as a person of suspect temperament. The rudeness he showed to the Office of the Governor of Rivers State does great discredit to the positions into which he was enabled attain since 2015 by the Governor, which includes the Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Commissioner for Energy with all the paraphernalia of the office, and a 2 time member of the House of Representatives; not also forgetting the gift of a brand new Prado Jeep and other benefits from the Governor. And I ask, who is the ingrate?
His anger is that he is being stopped from further dealing in illicit petroleum products stolen from our common patrimony as Nigerians.
Hon. Igwe should not deceive himself into thinking that he can not be called out to account for such criminal charges against his petrol station.
If Hon. Igwe’s abusive references to the Governor of the State is all that he can do as defence for the charges against him, then it’s a sorry day for the good people of Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2 who elected him to the National Assembly.
As a Local Government, we support every action of the Rivers State Government to curb the menace of illegal refining and dealing in petroleum products, and all those found culpable must be dealt with in accordance with the law.
