Eid-al-fitr: Mayor of Portharcourt City celebrates with Muslims in the city for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and celebration of Eid-al-fitr.
As Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-al-fitr, Mayor of Portharcourt City Hon Victor Ihunwo JP has felicitated with the Muslim community in Portharcourt city on the successful completion of Ramadan fast and the celebration of Eid-al-fitr.
The Mayor urged the Muslim faithful to sustain lessons learnt during the holy month of Ramadan and replicate it in their daily lives for the good and development of Portharcourt city.
He said Muslims should replicate the life of The Holy Prophet Muhammad as exemplified in love,tolerance, kindness and good neighborliness.
In The Mayor’s message released from his press office,Hon Victor Ihunwo reminded Muslim faithful of the importance of religious tolerance and enjoined them to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for the peace,unity and progress of our beloved nation,and most importantly pray that Almighty Allah intervenes and rid the entire globe of covid-19.
Hon Victor Ihunwo assured the Muslim community in Portharcourt of the determination of his administration in the city to improve their lives and commended them for their tremendous support for the Executive Governor of Rivers state Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON,GSSRS,POS(Africa)since 2015.
The Chief Imam of Mile One,Diobu central mosque who doubles as the spokesman for the Muslim community in Rivers state, Murtala Suleiman Bamidele Abdulsalam had earlier announced to Muslim faithful in the state to remain in their houses and perform all religious activities regarding Eid-al-fitr, adhere to all government directives regarding covid-19.
It is on the strength of this that The Mayor equally appeals to Muslim faithful in the city to obey the directives of their leaders.
The earlier ban on all public gatherings subsist,public parks,cinemas,open markets,abattoirs, nightclubs,beer parlours,restaurants, barber shops,drinking gardens must remain closed till further notice.
The 8pm-6am curfew imposed by the federal government is still in place while the lockdown of Portharcourt city will be effective by 8pm Tuesday 26th May 2020.
